Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Muncie, Indiana - Delaware County Sheriff George Sheridan is coming to the end of his eight years as Sheriff of Delaware County and is pleased to announce that he plans to remain with the department and serve under Sheriff-elect Michael Scroggins in the rank of Captain.

Both Sheriff Sheridan and Sheriff-elect Scroggins are working towards a seamless transition between their two terms in office.

Sheriff-elect Scroggins is a 24 year veteran of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. He has served in the administrative position of Uniform Division Commander with the rank of Captain for the past eleven years. He has extensive experience and knowledge of all areas of the DCSO including Criminal Investigations and the Jail.

Sheriff-elect Scroggins is a 2001 graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and took the helm January 1, 2011.

Sheriff Sheridan has served the DCSO and community well over the past eight years bringing into the community resources and equipment obtained through grants and agreements with both the state and federal Departments of Homeland Security. Under Sheriff Sheridan the EOD “Bomb Squad” has increased training and equipment – including acquiring a bomb robot which makes the DCSO EOD team one of the premier teams in this region of the United States. To date this year the DCSO EOD team has responded to 74 bomb calls.

In 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, Sheriff Sheridan and a group of officers were some of the first out of state law enforcement officers to arrive in the Gulf area to offer assistance during that search and rescue mission.

Sheriff Sheridan says he is, “proud of his service to the community and is pleased to be staying with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office after his term expires. Sheriff-elect Scroggins agrees saying, “I am very happy that Sheriff Sheridan is planning to stay with the Sheriff’s Office. His level of training and experience would be difficult to replace. I feel the citizens of Delaware County will benefit from his continued service with our Office and I look forward to continuing to work with George.”

Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Muncie, Indiana - Delaware County Sheriff-elect Michael Scroggins is pleased to announce Jason Walker to the position of Chief Deputy for his term in office. Jason has been a member of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years. He began his career as a Reserve Deputy while also owning and operating his own business JL Walker Electric Company. Currently Jason is the co-owner of Delta Electric Company.

In 1992 Jason was appointed as a full time merit deputy. He has worked as a road shift supervisor and under Sheriff George Sheridan was promoted to the position of Training Director. Earlier this year Jason was named Assistant Uniform Division Commander. Jason is a 2010 graduate of the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

Sheriff-elect Scroggins says of Jason, “Jason was a natural selection for the position of Chief Deputy as we have worked closely together for many years. He has served as the assistant to my current assignment and we have worked very well together. Jason’s experience as a small business owner makes him uniquely qualified for the arduous task of being Chief Deputy. In his own business he has worked with budgets, cash flow, personnel issues and maybe most importantly he has a true understanding of how the current tax situation in Delaware County affects small business owners and citizens. Together we will work hard to grow the vision and effectiveness of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office while still understanding the need to squeeze every penny from your tax dollars.”

Please join me in congratulating Jason on his new appointment and wishing him continued success in his career with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the service of the citizens of our community.
